Junior Basketball U8 - U20s

Under 8s, play in a non-competitive spirit with the emphasis being on introducing young players to basketball in an enjoyable and supportive environment. As a club, we encourage our Under 8s to have fun and at the same time to develop a sense of team spirit and responsibility.

Under 10s to Under 20s, we aim to provide an environment in which players can develop their skills and are encouraged to play at their full potential. Teams are therefore graded on the basis of each player's skills, behaviour and commitment to training & playing. We compete in the Brisbane Basketball Association competition.

Our Coaching Approach - Community Coaching powered by volunteers

At West Brisbane Falcons, our coaches are passionate parent volunteers who make community basketball possible. Some are new to coaching, while others bring years of experience—but all share the goal of creating a positive environment for players to learn and enjoy the game.

We are a grassroots community club, and our program is designed for community sport, prioritising fun, teamwork and skill growth rather than elite-level coaching. To support our volunteers, we provide ongoing coaching development to help them grow and improve their ability to develop players.

We ask all parents to respect and support our coaches—they generously give their time to create opportunities for your children. If you’d like to help make a difference, we welcome new volunteers to join our coaching team. It’s a rewarding way to be involved in your child’s sporting journey and strengthen our community.  For your child to be a part of a team and enjoy their basketball experience, please volunteer to take on the role of Coach or Team Manager.

Training Venue

We are very fortunate to have a 2 court stadium to train on. Please keep it tidy, we have a great relationship with Centenary High and we hope it is something that continues for many years to come.  Please respect the equipment, there is a no dunking policy at the sports & rec centre. Any backboard or ring broken by a player will be paid for by the player/parent if violating this policy.

Any players who are not respecting the equipment or are seen hanging from the net, ring or back of the backboard during training will be asked to leave the training session immediately, future incidents may result in their membership being cancelled.

The Training Venue Map shows how to find the courts and where to park.

Training Format

Before the season commences, we will run squad training where our coaches will assess the skill level of the players to determine what division and team they will play in for the season.

Once team placements have been finalised, we will move to team training.   The team training may be held on a different day and time to the squad training as it will be dependent on the availability of the volunteer coach.
